When I submit my journal, how long does it take to get the finished book?
Need to know your deadline for submitting your book? Remember, we are printing and binding the highest quality book you can find. Our hardbound, library quality books are meant to stand the test of time. This exceptionally high quality takes time. Please don’t expect instant results, you will need to be patient and wait a little while to receive your book. Please make sure to give yourself enough time to meet your deadline.
Our weekly deadlines are Sunday at midnight. We start printing each new batch of books very early Monday morning. Books are typically finished by Thursday of that same week, and ship on Friday. We ask for 10 business days in case we have a technical or printing malfunction. This is so that we have 2 print runs before your book is needed. Delays do not happen often, but they do happen, and there is nothing worse than putting in all that effort and not receiving your book in time.
To determine your Press Deadline, you will want to determine the Sunday before your deadline, then go back two weeks. That Sunday at midnight will be your deadline. If you submit your file by that day, we can guarantee the book will arrive on time. (If your deadline is around a major holiday where businesses would be closed or shipping delayed – please contact us to confirm your submission deadline)
In a big rush, or not going to meet your deadline? You can cut the deadline closer, and only allow us one week to print, but it is not 100% guaranteed that the book will arrive in time for your event. We do offer overnight or 2-day shipping to help expedite things. Our fastest turn around would be, if you order on Sunday, chose overnight shipping, and there were no delays or printing errors. In this case we could have the book back to you by Friday of the same week. This is NOT guaranteed, but it is possible.

Printing proof copies
You can absolutely print whenever you need to. What you will do is click the ‘Publish’ button in the upper right hand corner. It will then have you create a press file. Once you have created this file you will download the printable pdf. Then you can print any or all of the pages in the current journal. You may do this as often as needed. If you were ready for professional printing, you would continue to step 3 and order the book. But until then, you can simply return to the book and keep adding journal entries.

OK…found it myself LOL. To remove the photo, click ‘Move’ and drag the photo to the trash can. (wait for the trash can to turn yellow before letting go). This will only remove the photo from the page, not the photo album

I’ve added a photo image into my diary – but although I can reposition it, grey tone it, reorientate it clockwise/anti clockwise – and cover it up with another photo over the top, I’ve yet to work out how to actually delete it! Please help!

Printing proof copies
Hi – I’d like to print my test journal off so I can discuss it at the foster carer meeting next week but when I try and print it out it doesn’t seem to let me. Am I doing something wrong or can you only print them off professionally i.e. no proof printing allowed. Thanks for your help. Nicola

How would the “tagging” be incorporated into the printed product? Or would it just be a web-based feature?

Thanks for the great suggestion guys. We will definitely try to incorporate that feature. We are already working on a search feature that will allow you to search your entire journal for a date, name, word…. Anything. I think it will be really helpful when trying to remember or find stuff.

Thanks for the positive comments. Keep the suggestions coming. We are working on both the Word import and a Blog import that will be really helpful.

I definitely think this would be a GREAT idea and would really make things more user friendly. I know for myself when I’m writing I usually talk about more than one subject and I don’t want to have to stop what I am writing about and create a new entry just because it is a new subject and I would like to flag it seperately. I would LOVE to see this implemented.

It would be great if I could tag a single journal entry with multiple tags rather than put them into single sections only. For instance, if I could tag an entry with multiple tags I could keep everything in my journal together chronologically (which is probably most important) for printing, or I could eventually decide to print out a journal specifically talking about the courtship with my sweetheart, or I could print out a journal with all of my entries relating to spiritual experiences. I see this is a REALLY big feature that could create a lot of great opportunities to improve functionality for users.
I see this working a lot like it does in a WordPress blog (maybe that’s why it seems like a natural thing to include here)... Only being able to associate my entries with a single topic or section is a real bummer.

MS Word doc import... when?
A Word Add On or Import process would help me a lot. And, I agree, for this type of writing, we need to think .jpg as much as possible for anything other than plain text…I believe. I should wait until I have more experience, but intuitively, as this seems pretty intuitive a process and site (PYXLIN) ...so, I am happy to see WORD coming. This is the Word of the Journalists!

trouble with the title
Abbie,
When you add a journal entry, it should flow from page to page. Even though you’ve written a lot in a single entry, it shouldn’t start on a new page. Could you send an email to Customer Service with the specific page number that this is occurring? They will be able to determine the cause for you. Customer Service can be reached at support@pyxlin.com OR by phone at 888-326-5327

trouble with the title
Hi,
I am having issues with the title being on one page and then the actual post/writing of my journal being on a completely separate page because I’ve written too much to have it on the page with the title. To me it seems strange that I can’t fix this because it looks odd. I have a title on the left page (for example) and then a bunch of blank space beneath it, and then all the writing (with no title of course) on the right hand page. How can I fix this? Thank you,
Abbie

Abbie, when viewing your book:
1. click Add Photos. 2. click on a photo and hold it. 3. wait for gray boxes to appear (it may take a second or two) and then drop it on one of those boxes. 4. resize or adjust the photo to your liking.
You can add a photo before or after any paragraph.

I would like to be able to put a photo on the same page as a journal entry. I’m new to this so thus far I have only been able to make it so that an entire page of photos follows my journal entry. Is there anyway to get around this?

that’s a good workaround. I didn’t think about doing a jpeg. I’ll pass the contact info along to my mom. That will make her feel better about getting started. Thanks Liz for taking time to let us know the progress of the Word import.

MS Word doc import... when?
Thanks for the feedback. We are working on improving as fast as we can. We appreciate great feedback so we know what to do first. Our Word import is coming, but it is not ready to handle tables at this time. You might want to consider saving them as a jpg and uploading them as an image rather than a table in the text. The table feature is still a ways out.
You mentioned that your Mom might have some trouble. We have excellent customer service, so don’t hesitate to use it. We can walk her through any part of it, regardless of her prior computer knowledge. She’ll be a pro in no time. You can contact us via phone (888-326-5327) or email (info@familylearn.com). We look forward to helping her.

MS Word doc import... when?
I have some tables in Word format that I would like to import. The option is available on the right, but a pop-up says coming soon. Can you update that pop-up to give an approximate date or year?
Getting used to Pyxlin basically takes clicking on everything to see what it will do. I was really thrown for a loop when trying to log back in to Pyxlin on another computer. I kept going to pyxlin.com, but my login never worked there. I finally checked my first email from Pyxlin after I signed up and saw the URL is actually pyxlin.familylearn.com. Ah hah!
Another experience like that was trying to figure out how to export my journal to a PDF. Nothing in the clickable options suggests a PDF export. So I went to Publish… download Press-Ready file and that was it. What a beautiful layout too.
Anyway, there are enough gotchas like that and I think my Mom (who bought a subscription, but hasn’t used it yet) might have trouble. I like where Pyxlin is headed, but I hope that they get there sooner, rather then later :-)

Jeff,
This was only a temporary delay. It wasn’t actually a bug. It’s working fine now.
